P4 Packing is an AI-powered 3D bin packing optimization engine. It calculates the most space-efficient way to pack items into boxes, pallets, containers, and trailers — returning exact 3D placement coordinates in under 100 milliseconds. Available as a REST API and an interactive browser-based Sandbox with real-time 3D visualization.
Why We Built It
P4 Packing was born from real-world warehouse operations. After years of watching packers make manual box selections under time pressure — leading to oversized packages, wasted materials, and inflated shipping costs — we built an AI engine that solves the 3D bin packing problem in milliseconds. The goal: make optimal packing decisions accessible to every logistics team, from small e-commerce operations to enterprise 3PLs.
How It Works
The engine uses advanced combinatorial optimization with first-fit decreasing heuristics and 3D guillotine bin packing algorithms, enhanced by AI-driven placement strategies. It evaluates thousands of item orientations and placement sequences per request, considering dimensions, weight limits, loading directions, rotation constraints, and durability ordering. All dimensions normalize to inches internally, supporting inches, centimeters, and feet.
